Resources for Educators
We offer several classes that can be taught in the classroom to further prepare students for emergency situations. Please call Judy Christophel at (574) 293-6519 to schedule a class for students.
Disaster Preparedness
Programs related to weather and disaster preparedness are available upon request. Combined with our Ready Kids Program, we will explain the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Students will make their own "Ready Kit" to be stored in the classroom. The kids will include family phone numbers, a family picture, water, snack, light stick, whistle, and dust mask. If and when severe weather strikes or the school is in lock down, these supplies are distributed to the students to provide comfort, basic needs, and information. The cost per student for the Ready Kit is $3.
Ready 1,2,3 House Fires!
What is a toy what is a tool are two questions asked in this 45 minute interactive presentation for 2nd grade students. We teach fire safety and prevention, focusing on proper and improper usage of common fire-starting tools. Every student receives a Disaster Preparedness book to help them be prepared for many different emergencies.
Germs, Germs, Germs!
We offer two programs about germs for 3rd and 5th grade students. Wash Away Germs teachers 3rd grade students where germs live and what they might look like. Students learn that both bacteria and viruses can make us sick. In Germs Don't Make Me Sick, 5th grade students see actual pictures of germs such as the H1N1 virus. We teach how germs are spread and different ways to prevent them from spreading, such as washing hands.
Pint Sized Heroes
A one hour program for 5th grade students to learn about blood components, the donation process, and how blood is used as medicine to help save lives. A PowerPoint presentation, props, interactive games, and a visit from a special friend (mascot) will be used.

Scrubby Bear Handwashing Program
Scrubby Bear is a 45-minute program for kindergarten students. As students begin school, they form habits of washing hands after using the restroom and before eating. The Scrubby Bear program describes germs as being microscopic and identifies times when it is important to wash hands. Proper hand-washing technique is shown and pantomimed. The goal is to prevent germs from getting inside the body or spreading germs to others.
