Project S.A.F.E

The Elkhart County Chapter of the American Red cross in partnership with local fire departments kicked off Fire Prevention Month by leading a “Project S.A.F.E.“ campaign. SAFE stands for Smoke Alarms for Everyone and that was the goal of this event. On Saturday, October 1, over 300 volunteers canvassed at-risk neighborhoods providing fire prevention information, batteries for smoke detectors that were not working and smoke detectors where there were none to approximately 10,000 homes.
Vouchers for free Smoke Detectors were also passed out to homes that either did not have a working smoke detector in their home or if their smoke detectors were ten years old or older. These vouchers are still available at the Elkhart Chapter office as well as the Blood Services office in Goshen. If you or anyone you know is in need of a smoke detector please come to one of these two locations to receive one.
