Volunteer

volunteer2.jpgVolunteers are individuals who reach out beyond the confines of paid employment and normal responsibilities to contribute time and service to a nonprofit cause in the belief that their activity is beneficial to others as well as satisfying themselves.

Everyday, the American Red Cross helps people in emergencies...whether it's half a million dollar disaster or one sick child who needs blood.  People like you, who learn how good it can feel to lend a helping hand, make our vital work possible.  Red Cross everyday heroes come from all walks of life.  They are all ages.  Everyone has something special to offer...including YOU.

Our Chapter offers a diverse range of volunteer opportunities for people of all backgrounds.  Please sign up now and we will contact you with the next steps in becoming a volunteer.

As a member of the Elkhart County American Red Cross Disaster Team, you will receive the necessary training to be able to provide help after a disaster.  The most common disaster in Elkhart County is a home fire.  Volunteers respond to the scene and after interviewing the family, make arrangements for their housing, food, and clothing.  As a member of the local response team, you are also qualified to respond to major disasters around the country.  Requirements include:  The ability to work with diverse populations, confidentiality is a must, good communications skills, dependable transportation, knowledge of locations within the county, and be available on a rotating basis (usually 2 weeks at a time) at any hour of the day.
