Do you have a child or grandchild who is in elementary school? Do you like to work with children? Do you feel the need to help this generation be prepared for emergencies? If you answered yes to any of the these questions, BAT needs your help! BAT (Basic Aid Training) is taught to fourth grade students throughout Elkhart County. Did you know the Elkhart County Chapter of the American Red Cross helps fire families weekly?

When Disaster Strikes...

Disasters are unscheduled and no one is immune from the onslaught of destructive weather, accidents and fire. Unfortunately, a major disaster has struck Elkhart County in October 2007 with the tornado in Nappanee. However, the most frequent disaster in Elkhart County is still the single family fire. In fact, this chapter provides assistance to the victims of fire on a weekly basis.

Red Cross assistance is not limited to victims of fires; we help individuals and families affected by floods, tornadoes, natural gas leaks and other disasters.

How the Red Cross Can Help...

Assistance is given for food, clothing, shelter and other personal humanitarian services that may be needed. While unable to replace everything that is lost, our funding provides the basic needs for a family that is facing a devastating situation. On call 24 hours a day, Red Cross disaster services stand ready to help those affected by disaster. The American Red Cross can't change history, but with your help, we can make it easier for the disaster victim to get from today to tomorrow.
