Disaster Action Team

Our disaster service volunteers go through training in order to be ready to help with disasters, be they natural or manmade. Volunteers can sign up to help locally or be deployed Nationwide. The Elkhart County Chapter has over 450 disaster volunteers that help clients who have been through a disaster with food, shelter, and clothing based on immediate needs.

There is no greater feeling than being there to help someone whose life has been turned upside down by a disaster. Our volunteers are available as often as they like, depending on individual schedules. The Faith Based Community Initiative (FBCI) is a partnership between local churches and organizations and the Red Cross that increases our ability to respond to local disasters effectively. FBCI groups are trained to work in a Red Cross shelter and respond to local disasters.

We could not support the community without the generous efforts of our volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a disaster volunteer or joining FBCI, contact Doug Farmwald at dougf@elkhartredcross.org or call 574-293-6519.

A special thanks to all of our disster volunteers for their amazing response this spring! You have all done such a great job and we appreciate your hard work and commitment.
