I have been in Eastern Mass for seven days. This morning, I drove back to headquarters to be reassigned.
In the towns around Debham, we have found all the houses that had damage - all but two or three had a tree poke a hole in the roof. Homeowners called their insurance, who covered the hole with blue tarp and cut up the trees for collection. The homeowners were without power for a short time, and nearly all were fine and wanted no assistance.
Just a very few had really major damage. One was described on the condemnation notice as having walls that were "racked". I'm guessing that means knocked sideways, and no longer square. On that one, it also appeared the roof had been lifted up and its connections to the walls lost. Only in those homes was help needed. The residents mostly had no insurance,
and no place to move.
We completed the original visits to all the houses on the street sheets, and returned visits to clients who were not available the first time we came by, but had called in to ask for assistance.
We finished our last visit about four pm. and began packing up the service site. This morning I slept late, then packed and drove back to Southbridge Headquarters.
From here, I will probably be reassigned to one of the remaining service sites. That may be Western Massachusetts, Connecticutt, or New Hampshire or Vermont.
